Symbolic Convergence Theory is a fantasy theme analysis to a variety of topics and issues, like inaugurals, campaigns, and even in cartoons. Furthermore, the Symbolic Convergence Theory relates to the connection between the audiences and the comedians. In today’s world, comedians are known to tell stories and interact with their audience because of their humor and entertainment about their life or stories they share. This theory applies where people share in common with fantasies or real-life stories to predict or tell what’s happening in the scenario. The results are, comedians would show motives, emotions, and meanings to the stories that are being shared with the audiences, as they also feel the same motives, emotions, and meanings from the stories. Therefore, comedians share a bond with their audiences with their stories to make people have emotions, motives and understand their meanings of the stories they are telling.
An example of this theory between comedians and the audiences is a performance by one of my favorite comedians, Trevor Noah. He is known to be a comedian and a host of “The Daily Show; Trevor Noah.”
The following video show Trevor Noah uses Symbolic Convergence Theory that creates an atmosphere of applauses and laughter between him and the audience. He achieves this connection between him and the audiences by sharing the culture of being a New Yorker and creates humor from it. The performance of the show/video is taken in 2017, at New York City’s Broadway Beacon Theater. Therefore, the culture of being a New Yorker is known and shared by almost everyone in the theater. The interaction with Trevor Noah uses their culture to make them laugh and understand of being a New Yorker in traffic lights by demonstrating and acting. Trevor Noah uses emotions and motives to help the audience to understand the meanings of his story.
Another example of the theory is Chris Rock, and he is known to be a comedian and an actor. He’s been in the career of being a comedian for a long time, and people know him for being one of the best comedians in the world.
The following video demonstrations Chris Rock uses real-life issues about the United States with the audiences and make humorous fantasies about his solution. In this video, he discusses the issue of the country is gun control and shootings, and during the time, there was a report of schools and public shootings that we still are facing today. He then makes solutions by describing a fantasy story that bullet’s prices should go higher, so they would be fewer death rates from gun shootings. The bond with Chris Rock and his audiences have the same motive of ending and create more restrictions on gun control to help decrease gun shootings in public places. He points out that the real causes of gun shootings on innocent bystanders are parents, poor restrictions, and mental well-being. He explains his solution by describing scenarios by showing emotions, motives, and the meaning of it as, Chris Rock and the audiences do share in common about gun control and restrictions.
As a result, the Symbolic Convergence Theory does operate with comedians and the audiences. With the stories, motives, and techniques, the comedians use to interact with their audiences. The experiences and motives that people share in common are explained by the comedian, as they show emotions and understand the meaning of their stories.
